Project: Weather Station

The ultimate goal of our project is to provide weather and potential evapotranspiration (PET) data to all interested parties, specific to the Sabine River Basin and greater northeast Texas.  In November 2003, the Texas A&M University Agricultural Research and Extension Center at Overton (TAES) and the East Texas Irrigation Association (ETIA) submitted a joint application to the Sabine River Authority for a Community Assistance Program Grant (CAP Grant).  The grant money awarded by the Authority was used to purchase a Campbell Scientific weather station.  Additional financial support, expertise, and labor has been, and will continue to be, provided by ETIA and TAES to install, use, and maintain the weather station.

The benefits of this project are both immediate and long-term.  Weather and PET data will be collected and archived at TAES, and made available to all via this website.  Besides providing data once the station is up and running, a PET database will be created over time that will be useful in future decisions regarding water use.

Weather data is collected at the Texas A&M University Agricultural Research and Extension
Center at Overton, and may not reflect  weather observed in other areas of east Texas.
